we've got puppies and they are growing and getting cuter every day. If you know anyone who wants a purebred yellow lab. We are in the business. Today a casting lady called from a new "air bud" movie. I know what you are thinking, "how could anyone make another air bud movie?" Well apparently it's called "Air Buddies" and it's about puppies, our pups might be in the trailer. Can't hide the talent.

Wedding Day

Yes this is the first of many wedding days for me this summer. Today's wedding takes me to the Vancouver Golf and Country club. I have ironed my shirt and tidied up my wild "I work at a salon" hair. Justin is making me some scrambled eggs for breakfast.
Last night I went on a date with my brother Joey. We went to IKEA. Now any girl who loves going and roaming around the showroom of IKEA should know that my brother Joey is an ideal companion. He was completely into it. He probably said "look at this", as much as I did. He commented on how nice shelving units were, and talked about what he would put in some of the cabinets should, he buy them. Of course we went sort of later in the evening and we didn't have much time before they closed. We found ourselves leaving, grabbing candles and icecream trays as consolation purchases for the big things we didn't have time to talk ourselves into.

I have been hanging out at Mystique hair salon quite a bit this week. The draw was spending time with my friends, but the view and wireless internet kept me around. I'm back in the old bed. Good thing I'm skinny cause that old twin is feeling pretty narrow.
It's been great being back in the White Rock. Seeing so many brilliant friends over this last week has only made me more grateful for where I come from. I'm discovering how rare it is to know such a combo of funny, smart, and beautiful people, much less have friends that are all of the above. It has been great to play with so many of you. I'm sure the fact that I brought a friend home didn't elude any of you, so quick you are. Domi loved his first Canadian experience, and really couldn't get over how cool my friends were. Thanks for making him feel welcomed, even though he's not white :) We went up to Whistler on Sunday night, and it was amazing, in case you were wondering, the season is not over, and there was plenty of snow. I have never seen anyone catch onto snowboarding as fast as Domi, he was easy to teach. We managed to walk away without any major injuries, except Nanette's face was bleeding a bit, but all her teeth are still there, so she hardly noticed. Alex had a sweet t-shirt sunburn, cause it was so hot up there.

Last night the hot event in White Rock was definatly at Mystique Salon. Steph, Jacqui, Meghan, and Sarah hosted a night showcasing the latest eye make up trends. If you haven't been inside the salon on Marine Dr, next to "I DO" go check it out. No one else touches my hair. It was so good to kick back with girls I haven't seen for awhile. Everyone was looking great.
Tonight I'm heading down to Bellingham for Melissa's baby shower. So great to hang out with her in our "other" home.
I haven't gotten a canadian cell phone yet, so the best bet is my parents house. If you are feeling dismayed that perhaps my life will get boring and I will have nothing to write about now that I'm back. I also share some of your fears, but I'll try to think of something. No pictures to post yet, my parents computer is off of the flinstones and we don't have wireless yet, next week.
Oh ya, and we have puppies, and they are more fun every day, so if you want to come over and pet them, or maybe take a nap in the yard with them, come on over.

STOP-over

My face looks like 4:25am, while everyone around me looks like 7:25am. I'm on my way home, stop over in Portland.
The wedding day is here! I am so thrilled to get home.
There was drama at the airport last night, my bags were too heavy and I was squeezing in a little later then I had hoped, and they wouldn't let me on the plane. It was a classic not nice supervisor, and I will try not to fly Northwest again, Harmony airways really has been the best for this flight in my experience. I ended up leaving my big bag, a friend had to come to the airport and take it from me. I stuffed the dress for the wedding in my backpack, and evaluated my options.
My friend Domi is coming home with me, and he boarded his flight on time at 10:30 and will be waiting at YVR around 8:30.
Luckly I could go through Portland, but I'll be about three hours later then I had hoped. I'll miss my hair appointment with jacqui this morning :( and will hit the wedding straight outta the shower.
Portland is looking a little cloudy this morning and I'm rethinking my decision of spending some time on the west coast for the summer. I know when I see all of you, I'll never want to leave again.
Well I'm off to get hydrated, I don't want anyone to tell how crazy my night has been.
Why does my life have to be so interesting? Why can't I just get on the flight that I had planned months in advance, make my hair appointment, and go to the wedding? I guess then I'd have nothing to write about.

So I know I'm a bit of a camera person. And this is sort of anti-everything camera people are supposed to say. But if you want a good time, pick up the kodak disposable, waterproof to 50 feet cameras. They float and make for a great day at the beach.

Dakine Pau, that's why

I realised today while filling up my tank, $10 a day pretty much. That back in March I blogged that I hated buying gas at $2.81, well now I hate buying it at $3.33.
It's time for another hawaiian word game. Today's word is dakine. Now I'm sure you are familiar with this word, seeing as you may have a backpack made by the company.
"Dakine" is sort of a lazy word, you say when ever you can't think of, or can't be bothered to say the actual items name.
Commonly used in phrases such as "can you hand me that dakine?" or " we're going to go watch dakine show". I guess the point in saying "dakine" at all is that you sort of presume that people are understanding what you are talking about, so you don't have to use all the words normally necessary to communicate.
Many of the locals I know use the word very often, in every conversation. It is way past them even recognising that they say it. it is almost instead of saying "stuff" "hey, could you bring some dakine?".
I personally don't really say it, because it feels weird and makes me feel extra haole. But just like when you are in any other country you find yourself speaking more like the locals, there are a few very strong pigeon accents that bring the dakines outta me.
Another little bit of hawaiian lingo that the untrained ear may not hear, is that they often say "that's why" after explaining something. " we're running late, we had to stop by the store, that's why" I think they sometimes say it instead of putting a "because" in the middle of the sentance.
This wouldn't be pigeon 101 if you didn't start saying pau (sounds like pow). "Pau" means done or finished. It is almost exclusivly used in sentances like "you pau?" or "I'm pau"
If you really want to sound like you live in hawaii, you have to get rid of the "th's" and the "r's" hense "braddah".
Actually there are a ton of interesting pieces of language that you pick up living places.

Cinco de Mayo

I had a fiesta last night. It was really great. We moved all the furnature, put up some streamers, got a load of chips and salsa, put some mariachi music on, and got down. I invited the randomest people, which obviously makes for a great party. The highlights were, my friend Reggie who is my 55 year old stock room buddy from pier 1, he's lived in hawaii all of his life and tells great stories, everytime I say anything to Reggie he responds "yah right?" He's the best.
Then there was this one guy Aaron who I really had only met once before, at my favorite place to have breakfast "ted's bakery", but he seemed like a good guy so I invited him. Turns out he is a good guy, in the army, from texas, classic.
Then there was Franky, I work with him at the homeless shelter. He's from Micronesia, and kept requesting reggae music. But this kid could dance, but not like we dance. Like pacific island style, sort of tahitian, hard to explain...it's really in the knees. His explaination is that they don't really dance like us (haoles(white people) ), they cha cha. nice.
Are you loving the guest list so far? Well then throw about 10 mormans in the mix. The mormans I met doing my research. They know how to have a good time, and we all had to go get our eyes checked in the morning, so they all slept over. Yes, that is how much room I have in this house, I can sleep an extra 10 people rediculously easy.
So we got quieted down around 3:30 and I was totally happy with the night of random people I have met here. You just never know who you are going to end up being friends with, it's totally amusing to me the people I have connected with.
Speaking of connecting I am so excited to be coming home on Thursday! Can you believe it's been 8 months since I hugged any of you guys?
6 days till rachel is a married woman!

My new phone

Now I think I am a bit of a closet techie. I am not often brought to the point of posting about my electronics, but my new phone is amazing! It's a motorola slvr. It's cute, black, and thin, but that's not all. Camara, video, itunes, instant messaging, bluetooth, it really is more then I hoped for. Now my last phone had a camara too, but this one has zoom....ooooooh that's nice....I would never have really asked for a video camara in my phone, but it's surprising how useful it is for goofy times.
But the greatest thing and the selling point for me was the itunes, and the speaker on the phone is super loud so it's perfect accompaniment for 3 tanning girls. Not only that, but it's easy to hook up to my car stereo, so that my phone keeps my car bumping. It's nuts.
In the past I have been a little hesitant to figure out what to do with the pictures on my camara thinking I might have to send them somewhere.

This camara has bluetooth so that I have to do nothing, but sit close to my laptop and send pictures and videos to my computer. It's amazing. I feel like I have waited a long time for a phone to get to this point. In the states we have free nationwide long distance, I can't wait for canada to get to this point, as it is so convinient.

This is all I have to say about technology. Sometimes things just come together and make you feel good, this phone does this for me.

sleeping really rocks

I did a little research this weekend, it went really quickly. It is just about the laziest time ever, you just watch a lot of movies and hangout. It's sort of like winter where it's cold.
But the funny thing about it, is that afterwards, after doing nothing all weekend, you feel a little tired. So I'm going to have a nap now.
