"so if youre lonely, you know I'm here waiting for you."
5 points if you know the song, next line...
I'm just a cross hair I'm just a shot away from you,
So it's been awhile since I actually got down to business and told you what is happening in my life other then rain and pictures of myself.
I took the job at the homeless shelter, and then I entered a world of confidentiality contracts. So really I can't say much about it. But it is a shelter for women and families. I like the kids the best. My job is sort of just maintaining the facility and operations of the shelter. Making sure everyone gets out of bed when they are supposed to, eat at meal times, take showers, obey the rules. It's sort of like being a mom/ prison warden. It has been really challanging already, and I have gagged almost everyday. It is one of the places where being a skinny young white girl is not really in my favor, but I'm learning to "yell profesionally" and demand respect from tough people.
In Conor's words "grrrr"
I am not certain if it is where I will want to be for a long time, but hey it's something new,it is crazy challanging, and I'm not going to shy away from it.
It is sunny today, finally! The second day in a row, my white body is so glad. In fact I am outside right now. It's a little breezy.
Hold on, my slippers are blowing away.
Tomorrow I am lucky enough not to work, so it's going to be a long surfing day. The surf lately has been hard to come by because it's been so rainy. Rainy=runoff=murky water=sharks I don't know if you heard but a few weeks ago a girl from Vancouver got bitten on the leg. yikes. To make matters worse all of the rain we had, overflowed the sewers flooding millions! of gallons of sewage into waikiki. sharks=yikes poo=gross
Don't worry, brown water isn't attractive to me. I'll be heading far away from there. I am so glad that no one came to visit this month, it's not Honolulu's brightest moment.
This weekend your clocks changed but mine didn't meaning that you are now three hours ahead of me. Which sucks, if feels so much farther away, and leaves me few people to call at night. Except Karlin!
(get ready for much deserved Karlin praise) The time difference is something crazy evening = morning night=day. But Karlin is doing great in Switserland. She has totally blessed me this week with her text messages. I can't help but think that it must take longer for a text to travel that far, but it seems pretty instantanious. I heart cell phones.
I also love Lana. She must know the above mentioned song.
In other news, I am excited about the Kokua festival coming up this month where I get to see Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, and Willie Nelson! That is on the 22nd, and I'm lucky I found tickets cause it sold out right away. If there was ever one thing I was lucky about, ticket getting would be it.
It's time for your hawaiian word of the day, inspired by the Kokua festival, the word Kokua (co-coo-ah) is hawaiian for "to aid, assist, or help" It is not uncommon to hear people say "mahalo for your kokua", go a head and try saying out loud, maybe to your boyfriends later, or maybe to your cashier at safeway.
